The launch of the first four Rocking Boat Books was a delightful event. The authors were beaming, illustrators too. Family, friends, members of the local community packed the tables and chairs laid out in the charming Presbyterain church hall in Blackheath. We had readings, laughter, audience interaction, chatter, cakes and drinks and an excellent time. The books practically flew out of the door!

So be quick - if you want to buy books without moving more than a few typing muscles, send an email to inforockingboat@gmail.com. We haven't quite sorted our on-line payment yet, and besides it's pleasant to email a person, not a cyber-attendant.

Saturday 26th August 2023:

Fundraiser and crime novel launch; over 60 people cheerfully seated themselves around tables festooned with spring flowers and fine food for a Rocking Boat fundraiser in sunny Katoomba. Our first four authors and their wonderful illustrators were introduced and HUGE amounts of high tea treats were consumed. A great occasion.

The fundraiser was teamed with the launch of Dangerous Devotions, a crime novel by A D Penhall. Dangerous Devotions stars smart sassy people with and without disability in a fast-paced novel that delves into a hitherto hidden side of Sydney’s underbelly. See adpenhall.au for more info.

March – April 2023:

Ann Penhallurick, psychologist, writer, editor, speech pathologist has been running versions of the Dancing Wombat workshops for many years. However, the first workshops officially under the name Dancing Wombat were held in Blackheath one day per week for 6 weeks beginning 14th March 2023.

The workshops were hosted by the generous Blackheath Area Neighbourhood Centre (BANC). BANC provided support staff and co-ordinated the recruitment of a small, dedicated group of local volunteers, while Ann designed and presented the workshops and metaphorically twisted creative arms to find four marvellous volunteer illustrators.

Dancing Wombat Workshop Series 1 resulted in Rocking Boat and its first four books!
